Interview with Alvaro, Banquets Manager

“Always speak with the bartender or the waiters and they can really open for you a new world, that’s the biggest secret we have.”

What do you most get asked by business travellers?

During the conference they are mostly asking where they can go for lunch and dinner if they don’t have it in-house. We can give them a couple of suggestions in the area.

Have you had any unusual requests?

Lately we have had a few requests for where they can pray and we have been able to accommodate this in some of our unique spaces.

What in house catering or special services do you offer for business meetings? What unique spaces do we offer?

I think all our areas are really nice and I think they are special because of their ocean views. It’s a beautiful spot and we offer the wow factor of the ocean.

What are your ideal in-between meeting activities for business people?

I suggest for them to have some drinks in Lord Ashley Lounge or by the pool. Otherwise I suggest they walk over to the Haven, maybe to take a picnic over with them.

Where would you suggest to somebody new to the Central Coast and have 3-4 hours to kill?

Take a walk over to Wamberal towards the Lagoon.

What about if you had a full day?

If you have a full day in the area there are lots of activities to do. I personally like to recommend anything that is connected to the ocean such as going on a fishing day trip or if they would like to dive there are a few really nice spots, or even just snorkelling. Another suggestions is Bouddi National part, it’s a nice walk, nice trekking.

What do you think makes Terrigal a great city for business?

It’s so close to Sydney, only one and a half hours, I think it’s easier to come here than to go to Parramatta. It’s so close but you have the quietness from the city and the spectacular ocean views, it’s just a great spot. The accommodation we have is really nice, all the rooms are beautiful and the service is great.  I think the service is the best thing we have, you can really see locals working here with their Central Coast charm. Here you have a really high quality of service, there is heart. The first thing I noticed when coming to this hotel is the quality of the service, people smiling, people happy and I think guests can feel it through the service, I think that’s what makes the difference here in Terrigal.

Where would you suggest for a client to go to forget about business?

I always say go to the ocean. If you want to forget about business, go and have a swim or go and have a nice walk around the area.

What’s your advice for business travellers coming to Terrigal on how to get the most out of their time?

It’s an opportunity to get a release from the stress of the city. This is the major benefit they can have to really feel like they are somewhere else. You’re by the beach but so close to the city. You can see Sydney on the horizon but you are literally in this beautiful holiday location.

What’s a hidden attraction on the Central Coast, something off the tourist path?

There are a lot of hidden spots I found recently when doing the Bouddi National Park walk. Also, there are some great hidden spots around the Brisbane water, a lot of the bays and coves. It’s easy to find little bays and little spots if you have a kayak or paddle board. You can do a lot of activities that are connected to nature which are really nice and really cheap. They make you really feel like you’re on holidays, even for just two hours.

Tell us about an unknown secret about the hotel?

Always speak with the bartender or the waiters and they can really open for you a new world, that’s the biggest secret we have. Many times we are just waiting for the right question to give a great answer.

Where is the best place in the hotel to take a break or get away from the hustle and bustle?

The fireplace in Lord Ashley Lounge, early in the morning it’s the best place ever for quiet.
